Portals of Misconception:
Shannon Gowen | Aldon Mines
January 19 - February 23, 2013
January 19, 2013 from 6-9pm
February 23, 2013 from 6-9 p.m.
Shannon Gowen and Aldon Mines, Austin based artists, explore accounts of misunderstandings and faulty reasoning in their first collaborative venture together. The forms they've created combine Mines carpentry and Gowens eye for design, pushing limits on themselves and the viewer. Portals of Misconception focus on how misunderstandings and the reasoning of others directly affect the relationships we have.
"He likes to make things difficult for himself" said Shannon Gowen, when describing her experience working with Mines. Aldon Mines likes to challenge the rules of sculpture and how to construct by creating something in a seemingly impossible way.
These pieces take form out of elaborately assembled sections of distressed wood and delicate agglomerations of mixed media containing hidden figurative elements and delicate line-work over expressive watercolors. Seemingly floating groupings draw the viewer in to find small details and create an intimate experience with the individual pieces.
Portals of Misconception will be displayed at BLUEorange from January 19th through February 23, 2013. Opening reception January 19, 2013 from 6-9pm.
